The French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research is a public scientific and technological body under the dual administrative supervision of the Ministry in charge of Research and the Ministry in charge of Transports. The Laboratory of Electronics, Waves and Signals in Transport (LEOST) is one of the 21 Research Units of IFSTTAR with a staff (researcher, Engineer, PhD students, post-doc) of around 40 persons dealing with de development of New Information and Communication systems (Communication, Localisation, Surveillance) with a global approach of Intelligent Mobility in order to increase quality, safety and security and optimisation of transport systems in the road (cars, bus, tramway) and guided domains (trains, metros) and reduce the impact on environment and develop automation. The main research axis proposed within the project will focus on the analysis and prediction of signal propagation impact on GNSS positioning performances. It is split in several sub-axes:
  • Availability analysis (predictive and experimental). LEOST has developed the PREDISSAT tool able to predict satellite availability from a video record of the antenna's environment along the track. Simulation tools allow us to simulate different propagation environment in order to investigate the portability of the GNSS solution.
  • Accuracy enhancement: work in progress deals with the accuracy enhancement thanks to pseudorange error modelling and particle filter
  • Integrity evaluation: LEOST works since two years on integrity validation methodology, taken into account the environment of propagation. LEOST works within Regional, National and European consortiums, leads projects or WP. It was in particular part of the past EU FP5 LOCOPROL, FP7 MODURBAN, INTEGRAIL and several National projects.
